So far I have three headphone amps (thanks to this marvellous forum). They are the Creative E5 (though this is used on my PC only), the Fiio E12 and Topping NX3.
Although I appreciate the E12's clarity, I find it tiring (and irritatingly, the battery seems to self discharge quite quickly). The E5 is in a place of its own as I use it permanently on a PC (terrible battery if used on its own). But then there is the humble NX3. Cheap it was, but I love it. No noise, and no fatigue at all with plenty of power and a reliable battery.
I could stay with what I have but want to try a few others. I have just ordered the B4-X valve amp out of a curiosity, and with the inexpensive Topping being such a favourite, I spotted the NX1s. Is this an equivalent but improved NX3, or is it a different character?
