i love the way the Creative EP480's sound, it's loud and has nice background bass compared to the MX500's

i only use the MX500's daily because i lost the foamies for the EP480's and the size is relatively big for my ears and it hurts after a while, but on an upnote, i love the fact that the mx500's have that volume control right now on it, so convenient

They're just REALLY old. Those are the older version of packaging, but won't effect the sound.

You could always go for the MX550 if it doesn't work out. A US seller sells them for $13 shipped the last time I checked.

ME FTW since I found the link:

Depends how they used the earbud, right? I mean with foamies, I'm prefectly fine... but no foamies = earwax'd!!

If you're after an absolutely bargain basement earphone then the MX400 is the better option (meh - if you can call it that, slightly cleaner treble than the MX500)

...In all practicality though, there are several options available for around the $30 range that will sound better than the MX series which can sound very gray across the sound spectrum.

No, the straight plugs CAN be real if you get them SEALED packages in HK.

OEM + MX500/550 = fake
OEM + Sony earbuds = fake
OEM + ATH-CM7 = fake

And the list goes on.
If it's not sealed in retail package, it's fake especially when it's from HK/China.
