I have been searching for the perfect audio source and the #1 thing that comes to mind is the iPod Video 5 and 5.5 Generation because of it's outstanding Wolfson DAC. Is it truly a delight to audiophile's ears?

I prefer the Sansa Clip+, but i know the IPod is no slouch. Oh, and are you talking about the latest generation iPod? Because that one uses a cirrus chip.

Nope, it's from ages ago. Before the iPod Classic released there was he iPod Video. It boast a pretty serious DAC. If you get a Line Out Dock cable and an amp it sounds pretty nice. I've also heard pretty good sound on the Sansa.

I have a 5.5 gen 80 GB that I bought because of the Wolfson DAC. It's certainly good for a small portable. I should think it's better than any of its (Apple) successors.

This article might help: http://www.headfonia.com/hm-801-t51-rwa-imod-ipod-classic-and-x1060/. The iMod is still based on the 5/5.5 not a newer model, presumably because of the Wolfson DAC.
