i heard that the audio technica esw9a has a warm sound.
so im hoping that it would be way more forgiving headphone than my k701.
i want to own a sensitive and a forgivable pair since i kind of miss those recordings that are not so great.
music that is properly recorded and mastered is always great.
but sometimes i want to give the not so great music a listen.
so is the esw9a a forgiving can? and what music does it excel with.

Yes, it has relaxed smooth treble, so it's more forgiving of poorly recorded and/or more compressed digital media than something like the K701 which is like murder to audio as far as I'm concerned. The ESW9A does great with all genres. It's got great soupy mids, easy treble, and a warm nice bass that isn't over the top, but not anemic either.

theres an over ear model? whats the difference between esw9 and esw9a anyways?
if theres an over ear pair of cans with a similar sound ill take those instead if its within the same price range.

The AudioTechnica A900X is very similar, and over-ear. Also look at the AKG K167.

I wouldn't call it "tubey" as no headphone sounds "tubey" to me, but yes, it's a warm soupy lovely listen, not too bright, not dull, very warm, and simply an excellent listen. It has the kind of sound that makes me want to sink down into a club chair and relax and just enjoy some warm lush music.

Yup. Probably the least offensive phone out there. Bass can boom a bit but not too bad. A vert smooth listen.

The ESW9a is easily my favorite portable headphone. They don't change much with different setups, and are very forgiving even straight out of an iphone with punchy bass.

i take care of my headphones very well. but i still worry about build quality.
i use to own an ad700 so i think i have an idea how the a900x is built.
im wondering about the esw9a's durability.
in slightly rougher than normal use how long will they last.
will the headband break from putting it on and off too much?
is the plastic portion and extendable part durable? i've seen headphone break on the extendable part or near the extendable part before (hd598).
will the wooden cups last from change in temperature and humidity?
is the cable strong durable?

i never damaged any of the cans i own before, but $200+ is still alot of money.

also it seems that there is alot of fake esw9a floating around.
i've heard authorized AT dealers like adorama sells fake esw9a.
so im wondering that if i ordered mine directly off of amazon what are the chances that i'll recieve a fake?
