Will the Cowon D2 comfortably drive my 600-ohm 990's? SQ-wise, how is this combo for classical music? (also posted at the iaudiophile D2 forum)

of course the cowon d2 can't. you'll need a portable amp.

Poooh... D2 can drive my HD650, but 600 ohms is in a completely different league... I don't think anything short of a high quality portable amp will get it to sound decent...

its a portable player, the D2 is powerfull, but still 32mW per channel, dont expect it to move anything above 50ohm,

it will run my 250 dt880 to painful levels. i am sure that for normal listening in quiet areas, the 600ohm phones would work with the d2. that is the one thing i can praise highly on this machine. a volume of 26-30/ 50 on that little d2 is enough for me on my 250 beyers.

try it and you may find it works. the higher the ohm phone, the less chance for too much distortion, albeit with lesser volume. a friend of mine drives his 600 dt880 with a small portable amp that i had not regarded highly at all and it works.
