Hi guys
smile_phones.gif

Very new to the scene, thus need some advice to put me in the right track.

I have a very old hifi system that has an amp (Kenwood A-85) with a headphone jack output and a cd player.

I use my Sr80i directly on the headphone jack. I tried this using my portable cd player and did'nt notice any difference.

My question is: should there be any difference when listening from the hifi amp and my portable cd player?

And will getting a dedicated headphone amp make a difference?

Any input is appreciated

Thanks :)

It depends, really. I doubt any of the lower-end Grados are that sensitive to amplifiers, try with something power hungry (HD650, K701) and you'll notice the difference for sure.

Dedicated headphone amps aren't better than a AV receiver just because they're dedicated. It really depends on the which amp and which receiver. In general, if you already have a receiver I wouldn't bother with a cheap amp.
