So, simply put I was wondering, is mini XLR more durable than a 3.5mm jack?  I came upon thinking about this because of the new Fostex T50RP's.  I saw a review of a modded pair, in which the reviewer actually had a channel issue with one of the stock cables, though it worked fine with the vmoda cable.  Obviously in this case the cable was the(99.999% likely) culprit, but it had me wondering the question above...as well as if so, why isn't it used more often?  I know one obvious answer to that question would be just simply how common 3.5mm cables are.
