Hello,
I am using um3x with mid shure foam and sansa clip (hated silicons or comply foam with um3x strange sound to me). Hard to explain how I am happy with this combination. Sound is full, great mids and overall very very musical presantation with smooth vocals and clear instruments. Of course sometimes I feel attack and deep could be still better depend on songs there is a few where sound is muddy (should be more transparent) and vocals could be more distant but I guess problem is in mp3 player clip or shure foam as well. No matter it is glorious iem to me so I dont have a big need to upgrade them.

But I would like to try jh13, really a lot happy owners so it is time to change strategy is here anybody who is dissapointed/expected more

? Is it anybody who have a chance compare um3x shure foam with jh13? It could be very helpful for me. I am not sure if $750 will be worth it is a lot of money and honestly I am afraid about possible refit becose of that I live in europe.

The JH13Pro is actually 1099$, a far cry from 750$, but it is certainly an upgrade to the um3x which I think is an excellent earphone. As far as comfort is concerned, as long as your fit is correct, the custom iem should be as natural a fit as possible. but the JH13Pro is more balanced than the um3x and detailed. it also has more impact down low and in terms of stage, is much wider.

if upgrade is what you want, it is in every way a better phone.

^^ I think the OP meant $750 more than the UM3X (around $350). BUT, on top of the $750 price difference you have to add $75 shipping + cost of ear impressions + cost of shipping the ear impressions to JH Audio. Then, if you need one or more re-fits, costs obviously escalate.

Of course I thought $750 if I will sell um3x plus minus shipping...it is not important how much acuratelly.

I'm sorry, i misunderstood! They are definitely worth it, but they cost a hell of a lot of money. You had better listen to them every day for years to make the investment worth it. The westone UM3x is a new iem and will be of top calibre for years yet.

If you really want to get your money's worth, keep the Westone's and after a few years, when you really need/want to upgrade, it will be worth it. If you start now going from the best of unviersals to one of the best customs, you may never stop going. It is very expensive to keep upgrading and/or sidegrading.

Music and I have different views on how much a custom is better than a universal, however, we agree on one important fact: customs are a lot of money. the um3x is already amazing. if you want to upgrade due to the appreciation thread for the JH13pro, you may be better to wait - something better will always come out.

if you are happy already, there isn't really any reason to upgrade.

Well, your calculations are a bit off. You probably could only sell your UM3X for $300 (new they cost $335 now). If you also deduct shipping, let's say $20, you're really getting about $280, so the difference with the JH13 is about $820 and, like I said, you have to add $75 shipping + cost of ear impressions + cost of shipping the ear impressions to JH Audio, AND even more if you need one or more re-fits.

The $75 dollars for shipping costs is optional. He can choose to pay either 25, 50 or 75 dollars for the shipping.

OP, I'd say get them if you can afford them. They're a lot better than my UE-10 Pro's. The difference isn't subtle either.

Are you sure it's $20/ $50 if you live in Europe?

Perhaps you shouldn't have mentioned the price in the first place?

But make sure not to let it drip into the sound tubes or your source. That is a fast way to destroy your investment.

Solid advice. If we all followed this, we'd be a lot richer. If you're content with the sound signature, then simply save your money and just enjoy the music.

Funny, but I just got very lucky and won nearly $12,000 at the poker table (long story), and I have the UM3X and not soon after telling a friend here, he suggested the JH13. While it sounds like a great idea, I am very happy with the Westones, and I never have spent more than $250 on a pair of phones (I sold the Westone 3s to pay for the UM3X, and got the Westone 3s for $240 last year via cashback and a paypal coupon).

Anyway, I can't justify spending the cash, even though I can clearly afford it today. But with a kid in college, I just feel I should stick with what I have. I know, sounds nuts. But it's just me.

I certainly sounds nuts in a forum like head-fi where it's 'normal' to spend crazy amounts of money every few weeks/ months, but in the real world it is most definitely the right thing to do.
