No I didn't say that. You gotta hear them yourself first then look at the graph

Now if I just took some refrigerator magnets, looped copper coil around them a couple of times, connected it to a jack and supported it over my ears using popsicle sticks and twine.........that would be crap.

But that is my set-up!

1893 Edison Phonograph-->Rusted Unshielded Steel cable I found on the road-->Refrigerator Magnet Copper Coil Phones

They sound great!

So supporting a guy in his declaration of liking his i-buds is annoying to you? Out of the "opinions" on this particular post...which basically boils down to either "dude, you're listening to crap, which in turn makes you an unsophisticated dolt..." to "whatever floats your boat...", which support the original poster's title?

Look, I never said I didn't value opinion, I just don't let people bully me into thinking less of my personal choices. Oh, and I do buy what I want...I certainly don't seek approval from this forum.

You know what's annoying? Whiny, little replies that either label people as trolls or instigators because they don't fall directly in line with mindless and sometimes uninformed opinion. If you don't like dissenting views, why don't you stop posting on a public forum?

Your disclaimer that you should have deleted your reply yet posted it anyway is pretty passive aggressive. Talk about a "troll".

Easy easy..didn't mean to start up a mini flame war. I enjoy higher quality phones as well. I love my HD595s, I liked the X3s when I had them and I have had a variety of other good quality headphones along the way. but for some reason the ipod earbuds (with foams removed since I lost them
smily_headphones1.gif
) still sound good to me especially with classical music. They have no bass and very little mid sound to speak of but the treble (exaggerated as it may be) really gets right in front of you. They're just fun to listen to sometimes.

But I'm getting yuin Pk2 (i think) soon, so they may become my favorite fun earphone if the hype is to be believed.

I'd accept that argument except I have personally had her try my PortaPro, KSC35, Koss A130, my Senn. HD201 and my roommate's Senn. PX100. That and she owns my original pair of Kramer-modded KSC75s. None of these phones is particularly high end but they are noted as being rather good intro headphones. She prefers the Koss Clips to all of them noting that:

A) She doesn't like the sound of the A130 unless I drive it with my amp, and she doesn't want the burden of carrying an extra piece of equipment.
B) She doesn't like my Senns because they don't 'give her enough volume'.
C) She doesn't like my roommate's Senns or my PortaPro because she hates the amount of bass that they have.
D) She doesn't like the Kramer-modded Koss's because of the quarter cut made in the foam
E) She doesn't care for the standard KSC75 or 35 because she sticks them in her purse along with her DAP and pulls them out only to find that the clips have come off and she has to put them on again.

She's not a fool-she has stated several times before that she is well aware that the Clips don't sound nearly as good as the KSC75, 35, PortaPro or PX100. However she says she likes the sound nonetheless and likes the fact that they are not bulky, drive easily without an amplifier and don't come apart. Its the same reason she converts all of her music to 128 kbps. I have tried to convince her to at least bump up to 192 kbps (the limit at which I can discern bitrate improvement), but she says she's tried all the way up to 256 kbps and 128 sounds just fine for her and saves her data storage space. I've been able to clearly realize from this that she's not as crazy as I used to believe and that she clearly does try other things and has eventually come down to the combination of the Zune I bought for her and the Koss Clips with music at 128 kbps (a combination that makes me want to cry). My personal opinion is that what seems to be crap to one person is perfectly acceptable to another person. Personally? I still think she's mad and that the Clips are crap, but I know that she did do tests with her own ears and decided on what she wanted from that. After that, I've stopped viewing some headphones as crap and others as good. To each person, his own tastes as each person is looking for a different appearance, sound, etc when choosing headphones.

I'm one of those people.. it REALLY does sound like crap to me XD

appophylite hits the nail on the spot. I see ibuds everywhere, some of my friends even like it.. I think it because they haven't tried better stuff though. Unlike your example.

I think it's important in a situation like this to distinguish between something that scientifically and objectively has a superior sound signature and something that is a personal preference.

The iBuds are a "fun" headphone. They are easy to pop in your ears and have a tune belted out. From the listening I've done, they offer a very accessible style of music. If I only wanted to listen to music for 5 minutes, I might even say they work as a positive.

It's kind of like TV. No one in their right mind would say that the "reality shows" propagating throughout the American system are of a higher quality than, say, CSI or The Practice. However, I know a lot of people that don't want a well-designed plot and so forth if they're channel flipping.

I guess I'm guilty of the same. If I've only got the TV for a few minutes, I'll flip on ESPN almost without thinking about it. I wouldn't call the 3rd rerun of highlights from the NFL last night the most enriching entertainment, but it's easy to watch. I find if I put my Denons on, I hardly ever want to take them off! Not the best necessarily for when I only have a few minutes to chill to a song or two.

The same applies here. It would be foolish to say the iBuds are a high quality pair of headphones. I don't, however, think it's idiotic to like them, as long as you've tried the other headphones out there. Saying they rock (and I had someone like this on another forum) without trying the alternatives is just speaking in feeble ignorance. When I told him that they are widely regarded by the audio industry as crap (though I did not say that specifically about him), he got offended and went off on a tangent about how he must be deaf and therefore he only "feels the vibrations."

His lack of maturity in the responses further illustrated how clueless he was about headphones, and the OP (who was asking about what a good set of headphones to buy is) flatly ignored anything he said and thanked me for a comprehensive response.

I'm not sure what set of headphones he went with, but I tried to put my admittedly limited experience gained from this site to use. Because in the end personal experience is irreplaceable.

That said, man... you like the iBuds? haha.

Wouldn't that be the same as asking your GP for legal advice?

Nope, there's nothing wrong with your ears. I completely agree to your viewpoint, the treble is pretty alright on the iBuds. However, I personally wouldn't use them for long
biggrin.gif

There's nothing wrong with being alright with the iBuds, but just using the iBuds to show you have an iPod to up your cool factor? I'm against those people
