I've ordered a Hifiman HM601 LE (the setup described in my sig is dead/sold back)
and wanted to know if someone tried to pair it with a portable amp and for what result?

Pretty sure you don't need an extra amp with the HM601LE. This DAP has a good amp powerful enough to drive the HD25.

i'm also curious about this DAP. has anyone compared it directly with the 602 and how was it? im torn between the two right now. upgrading from cowon.

on my 601 the line out is better than the headphone out, I use a Graham Slee Voyager
and occasionally Epiphany O2, they both make a superb sounding combo, I particularly love
the 601/Voyager combo, much better than a Studio V or even X5 to my ears.
