Is it strange my ATH M50x has more Bass than my Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Ohms?

I got my DT770 80 ohms a few weeks ago and they've been a better step up from the m50, better soundstage and more comfortable. I've been running them through my Focusrite 2i2 Usb Audio Interface. But today I put on my M50x and listened to some hard hitting trap tracks and the bass sounded alot more louder and in my face in them then the Beyers!! With the beyers it sounds like the bass is sitting in the back on alot of songs unless i turn the volume up, in which the highs sound too high and its too loud.

I was surprised and disappointed because alot of people reported that the DT770 80 Ohms has alot better bass than the M50's, maybe mine is defective with lower bass? I would hope not.

DT770 Pro 80-Ohm like a lot of power to sound it's best.
The 2i2 headphone jack may just not be the right amplifier for driving them.

Something like a stereo receiver or A/V receiver headphone jack might drive the DT770's better.

Really? I heard the 2i2 was good enough for it

I would have also assumed the 2i2 could easily drive the DT770 80-Ohm.
I'm just try to make guesses on why the DT770 is not working at it's best, plugged into the 2i2.
I own the DT770 Pro 80-Ohm and I know it normally outputs a loud bass.

  What Amp do you use?

I was using a Indeed tube headphone amplifier, then an Essence STX sound card, with the DT770.
But I stopped using the DT770 years ago because of the loud bass.
Now my preferred headphone is the Beyer T90 :)
Plugged into my NFB-15 external DAC/amp.

2i2 is good enough to drive your DT770Pro 80.
DT770Pro and M50 emphasis different parts of bass. M50(x) have a lot of mid bass, DT770Pro 80 less mid bass and more sub bass.

May be so, M50 kicks are alot more punchier than on the DT770

You might need to leave the DT770 plugged in over night (for a few nights) with loud music running thru them.
See if they improve with use.

This has been my issue ever since I got mine. They are through burn in and I have had them plugged in to Amps etc.

Today I noticed the seal is not the best because of the huge cup opening and the pads tapering outwards. They leave a little room behind and under the ear. Pressing them onto the ear seems to help but it might be because the driver gets closer to my ear.

Anyway, it's something you could play around with.

It's not really surprising the M50s have more bass. There's a reason they're recommended as an alternative to Beats and the like. Bass is basically just what they're for. The DT770 Pros are more of a bassy every-headphone. They compromise a little bit of bass quantity to make them fantastic in every other regard.

Bass is a harsh mistress. I was rocking the XB700s for a long time, so it was hard to ween myself off absurd amounts of bass.
