Is it perfectly fine to buy studio bookshelves if you do not mix music and wish to use it for movies/games other than just music?

Was wondering this. Looking at active monitors and realised most of it says they are perfect for recording or mix. Wonder if i use it for movies and games other than just music with my computer using a soundcard would be fine? Or should i look at other speakers other than studio ones as i watch movie and shows most of my time.

i am not looking for surround but would really love decent soundstage and clarity while watching movies in stereo. Looking at a pair for under 400.

They'll be fine. A speaker is a speaker, the studio ones are aimed at accuracy. They aren't really designed to go hearing-destruction loud though.,

If you need a sub output due to not having a reciever, or active speakers has no sub out, I think Harrison has an overpriced something that may help: http://www.hlabs.com/products/crossover/
