Is it normal for 1 day old headphones to sound a bit scratchy?

It's very very unoticeable and it seems to only occur when a lot of things are going on in the music (distortion + hi-hat).

I got the AKG K271's for Xmas and while they sound great otherwise, this is one thing I noticed. Is this part of the "breaking in" process? I've only used for about 1.5 hours total since I got them.

Stupid question: You're not by chance plugging them into the line out are you? Or using any of the "enhancements"?

actaully those are some good points. doing those would/could result in scratchy sounds.

I've used the same headphones for a year without an amp an not once did they sound scratchy. There may be some quality control issues with the 271's, if you search you will find some debates on that topic.

What Kirosia means by "enhancements" is bass boost or any other eq presets.

I recommend getting a portable amplifier for your headphones if you want to drive them to your preferred listening levels. It may alleviate some of the scratching. Make sure the scratching is not in the recording.

Hehehe... aren't the Akg's pretty big already? if you're going to lug those around... Why mind an amp?

I went with a HomeVibe, with Portable Battery. (The battery is just a mint case with 2 9 volts. I wish Headsave-Tigger-Norm left the picture on the mint case though... I'd love to have a picture of... FIsherman's or something : )

Yeah might check your recordings. I just got a pair of senn. hd280's and am noticing that half the rips and copies I have from before I started using EAC are crap.
