I never had a DAC and I saw a cool advert for iFi HipDAC and ordered one.
I do not have Tidal. I have Spotify.
The best full size phones I have are Grado SR80e

I also have some nice triple driver 1More’s
I have Bose NC700 but my understanding is that even in wired form those don’t work with DAC.

so my question is am I really wasting money on the DAC or is there some benefit

I would think it should be an upgrade depending on the source you are using now. Find some good quality music through your new DAC and enjoy.
