Is any mp3 player more user-friendly than the Ipod?

It's not just what iPod users "presume;" it's what happens. It doesn't happen as often for users of other DAPs, even those that have equivalent playlisting features. I'm not sure why it doesn't happen for them, but I'd guess it has something to do with the ease and seamlessness of iTunes+iTMS+iPod.

The fact that other music players with the same features will not cause the same life altering experiences as the iPod just isn't true. In the year that I've had my DAP I've discovered music from newsgroups, from IRC, FTPs, eMule, and I've bought over seven new CDs. Yeah, I didn't go running off to pay almost as much as the original CD costs for 128k DRM controlled AACs, so I suppose the magic religious syngery just doesn't exist for me. But contrary to popular belief, people can grow musically even if they own products without an Apple logo on them.

iPod 4/5G reads many other formats, both compressed and lossless, than AAC (which is another name for MPEG-4)... 'DRM controlled' also includes many downloadable WMA files, Real files, etc... without any DRM, which is only the most rudimentary of file encryption anyway, the music companies would choke off the 'legit' music supply immediately. Blame Apple for those lame, overpriced 128k bitrate AAC files (they should, for the price, offer 320k AAC as a MINIMUM, and Apple Lossless as a no-cost option), but DRM? That's industry wide, as it should be.

Glad to hear you've grown musically without the religious synergy OR the Apple logo... we should all be so lucky...
