Is 50ma enough to drive low-z phones? And another Q about v-swing

While low-z phones do not eat that much current, having decent current reserve always means getting better sound. In a cmoy set-up, can 50ma be considered a good enough output?

I am currently using OPA552 (200ma) in my cmoy and that amp can handle +/-30v. I can buy either a 48v psu or a 30v psu. I think that a 48v psu will provide better voltage swing for my K240DF than a 30v one, is it true? But since many good opamps that can output 45-60ma can not handle more than +/-18, having a 30v psu would provide me with more options, if +/-50ma is strong enough. What do you think?

Many thanks!

Your forgetting how the important of voltage to the opamp is compared to the output. The opamps can normally swing voltage to within a few diode drops of their rails. Sound quality wise I doubt you'd hear much of a difference between +/-15V and +/-24V but this depends on the opamp and any major changes will be stated in the datasheet.

As for current more current does not always mean better sound quality. Once again it depends on the device, but providing you have sufficient current to handle sharp transients, more is not needed.

Go for the 30V powersupply.

In my expirience, Senn HD201 (24ohm) playing Iron Maiden unbearably loud, peaks at about 30-32mA

you really should spend some time at headwize reading the library and some basic electricity references if you don't yet understand this basic info

I hadn't noticed that posts. Thanks.
