Haven't done it myself (yet!)

See www.misticriver.net
H1XX forums - lots of info.

The H140 is thicker than the H120 due to the larger hdd. Whether or not there are larger hard drives that can fit the h120, im not sure, you can ask on misticriver

Mystic River has indepth details on how to swap H120/140 hard drives. You can buy those drives on eBay but they're not necessarily cheap. The key issue is that you need a drive with the old connectors, not the new ZIF connectors. I think it would cost me about $100 to buy a 60 GB hard drive for my H140 while the mythical 80 GB drive is over $700 (i.e. a complete ripoff). Not sure of the prices on the smaller single platter H120 drives. Again, you MUST get the older drive with the right connector. Details on mysticriver.net.

It would be a lot cheaper to simply have 2 H140s.

Upgrading an H120/140 is relatively easy nowadays and can be done for 100 - $150 (depending on drive size).

I've done two upgrades and it's worth it IMO.

I upgraded the hard drive of two H120 and two H140 to 60 GB (Toshiba model MK6006GAH) and now I have four H160 players. I moved the internal upgraded 2200 mA battery of the H120 to an external 1.8 inches hard drive enclosure (bought on eBay) which is attached to the back of the player, because the player has space only for the 60 GB hard drive. The H140 can accommodate the 60 GB hard drive plus battery. I bought the refurbished MK6006GAH on eBay from a very good seller (user ID: fixyourpda). The upgraded hard drive has less noise than the original 40 GB disk of the H140. Replacing the hard drive disk is easier than replacing the battery.
