hi all!!
i just got my grados today and this is my first set of cans.. i didn't have the extra buck to go for the portable amps and so, this is my first set of cans which are easily driven by the iPOD.. i would like to ask u guys something. i already put my volume at 90% of the iPOD volume meter.. it seems like it's the same volume at the iPOD stock buds at 70% or around there?

another question is kind of "by the way".. how do u guys bring ur sr60 out with ur IPod or any portable CDP? the cable is long and think. i'm trying to figure out how i can bring it out.. coiling is a good idea?

Coiling would work, but the SR60 really isn't a portable phone. I carried my SR60 in a seperate bag when I travelled, I do the same with my SR125s now. I'd suggest looking into a more portable pair of phones for daily use on the go though. Consider the Koss Portapro, I think that that phone has very similar sound characteristics to the SR60. Both headphones leak sound though, so others around you will hear what you're listening to, and you'll hear outside noise too.

i guess the leaking of sound; this "culture" is accepted in singapore.. the grados IMO, they are not the worst leaking cans. here, most ppl use the sony earphones, they do leak some sound and some use the creative cans,(IMO, they leak the most!!!) and aiwa cans! alot of singaporeans here use cans which leak sound for portable use.. i can hear what they are playing in buses, trains.. think most of us just dun care.. haha, so it doesn't matter.

thanks for the reply..

hmmm, quite detailed.. good bass, i was with it when it burnt in.. i noticed it became abit louder and the bass went deeper..

haha, but it has a very narrow soundstage and the highs are not very impressive.. it hurts my ears in fact.. but oh well, this is one of the best that can be driven by iPOD. so i can't complain much. i was actually comtemplating between the 225 and the 60/80. but that guy dun recommend me to get the 225 since it's for iPod.

I just got my 4G ipod from freeipods.com. It seems like the SR60s made my battery last a lot shorter then it should, it only lasted about 3 hours total (First hour backlight was touch sensitive).

Sorry friend,
When I first went to hear the iPod at the Apple store, I brought along a pair of sr60's. I was very unimpressed with the sound, which I mistook as the iPod's problem. It was not. The iPod sounds fine. It was the headphones. I then bought a pair of Sennheisser PX 100's and it sounded a HOLE LOT better. The Grado's heavy 9 foot cord is not made for walking around either. Bend it this way or that, it never gets better.

I wasnt concerned about powering it because I already have an amp, but I never considered the long wire

I guess I'll have to mod it if the turtle cable is not up to the task.

hmmm, i dun think the sr60s made ur ipod last alil shorter.. u might want to do a battery test. charge it properly and then play it to see how long it lasts.

i've nv heard the px100, so i can't make a comparison.
as for the cable, i agree that it's kind of long.. so i coiled it a bunch and put in my bag and pulled out the necessary length needed. it's not meant for working.. not meant for home also. so i'm wondering why it is so long..

Funny...coz the SR-60 is my primary portable headphone

I coil the cord and use a cable management velcro strip to hold it together in my pocket. The rest of it goes under my shirt to my ears.

PX-100 doesnt come under the same radar as the SR-60 - I cann BS on this comment...the SR-60 is WAAAY better...

Another option for you is the Koss Portapro 2 which is a nice portable headphone.

Cheers!

The SR-60 might be a bit current intensive but still no headphone can be responsible for reducing battery life to almost 25% (the 4Gs have been tested at 11 hours 20 minutes under somewhat generous conditions).

If this ipod is very new, and you havent done this yet, run the battery all the way down until it dies and then give it a full charge. Doing this right off the bat and then from time to time afterward helps calibrate the battery meter. Your ipod may have reported the battery as full when it wasn't. For more detailed information look to the battery sticky at the top of this forum.
