I was wondering which of these I should get. My iPod just recently broke, and I really don't like them. If at all possible, I would like to stay away from iPods, and iTunes is awful. Also, the sound quality on iPods seem to be lacking.

As for the iriver and Vision:M, I don't really know a lot about them. All I really know about the Vision:M is that it's only $230 for 30gigs. I was hopping you guys could tell me which of the three you prefer, or if there is a fourth that is better.

I'm not being terribly picky with this. I don't want anything lower than 20gigs, and I'd like it $300 or lower. Neither of my two iPods lasted longer than a year, and I'm really tired of their shoddy quality.

TIA

If you don't like iTunes, then you might not like the software some other player may make you use. The X5 is UMS so requires no software. Supposedly it sounds very good.

Sound quality is fine on iPods with Rockbox. iTunes is gonna be a pain no matter what you do, but Creative's software isn't exactly stellar either. The ZVM is a great all-around player, but it is a bit bulky. Sound quality is good with the default firmware. Can't be used as a data drive though unless you cut off a portion of your ZVM media storage. It can do more than an iPod, but it is bigger. Big tradeoff for people who carry theirs around in a pocket, but in a belt it isn't a problem. iPods have much better options for accessories, of course.

Also, If you watch video, I think Zen Vision M might be easier for you because it takes popular video formats, such as wmv, divx, and xvid.

The iPod video requires you to convert to mpeg4 format such as h264, which is not widely used yet.

Judging by the H10 being in your list of options, video playback doesn't seem to be a big draw for you. In that case, both the Cowon iAudio X5 and iRiver H300 are feature-packed players that are functional, extremely durable, and boast top-tier audio quality generally considered at least as good as the iPod or Zen Vision:M. Both players are wickedly easy to fill up, with no software hassles whatsoever.

Didn't notice the "Other" option or else I would've voted it.

i voted for the ZVM without noticing the option for 'other'.

i'd like to say the Cowon iAudio X5L. greatest player i've ever owned. great sound, easy to use, great-looking, no software. if you don't need video, its perfect.

I think 2007 is going to be the Year of the Video Player. There seems to be a large number of Digital Audio-Video Players (DA/VP or maybe DAVP ????) in the pipeline or about to be announced.

I am looking for a stand-alone digital video player (no music). I am going to wait and see. I think there will be some great players for sale in the next few months.

So did you get anything and if so what? I am looking at similar options right now.
