Yes, it's fine to put it though and x-ray.

Pretty sure your iPod will be fine. They might make you turn it on, but that's it.

The only problem I've had when traveling with my iPod, was on the airplane itself. One of the flight attendants was walking around to enforce the "turn off all electronic devices during takeoff" BS and noticed my iPod. He asked me if it was off, and I told him "yes". Well, he wanted to see for himself.

The only problem was, since I had just paused it, the iPod hadn't gone to sleep yet.

FA: "You need to turn it off"
Me: "You don't turn these off. You pause it, and it eventually goes to sleep."
FA: "Don't play with me. Turn it off."
Me: "I told you, there's no OFF switch."

He eventually left me alone, but it wasn't the most pleasant experience I've had.
