Here's a quick question that I hope will be easy to answer.

Until recently, I've been using EphPod with my 2nd Gen 10gig iPod with no problems.

Then, I picked up a 4th gen 40Gig iPod and tried to sync it. No Dice. So I installed iTunes, had to reformat the 40, finally got that working.

But somewhere, somehow, the little iPod icon in my sytem tray (which used to allow me to "unmount" my ipod by right-clicking on it) is gone. I don't know which program first put the icon in the tray, but I want it back! I dislike using the Windows XP "safely remove hardware" grey and green icon thing.

any ideas?

Also, if you have any thoughts how to best manage using 2 iPods on the same machine, that would be great. I am going to search here for some answers, but thought I would just pose the question here too. My thoughts were to use EphPod with my 2nd Gen and iTunes with my 4th.

thanks guys!

If you don't keep any syncing info on the PC, iTune can be use just to transfer tunes to iPods. Then it doesn't matter how many iPod you have.

Since the iPod has more storage than the PC, this makes sense for me

thanks for the replies. i'm not sure they answer what i'm asking for though.

Taphil, what are you referring to?
easypeasy, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. but i probably wont need to sync both ipods since the 40gb is intended to just replace my 10gb.

most importantly though, i want to restore the iPod icon that appeared in my system tray, or did until i started messing around with my new 40gig. i still have EphPod currently installed on my PC, as well as iTunes. I don't really care what program I use for syncing the ipod with my PC, I just enjoyed the convenience of having that icon in the system tray for unmounting purposes.

thanks

my expired trail version of anapod has that icon, but your probabaly referring to another icon. I use iTunes and ephpod, but I dont think those programs have put any icons on for me.. I'd like to know what it is too, so I can use it too. I agree, the windows safely remove hardware button sucks.

I was referring to that iPod icon program. It didn't work that well to start off with, and when iTunes came it wasn't needed. It wasn't really needed in the first place anyway, since it's redundant with the Windows remove hardware icon. It's basically an unnecessary program that runs in the background. From what I remember, the icon was also there to auto-run MMJB (or any other program like EphPod) when the iPod was plugged in. I think it also controlled whether or not the iPod appeared as a drive in My Computer based on the settings made in MMJB.
