Yes, thank you. Either way, my iPod nano will be here in two days. And I wish to enjoy it regardless.

Since the iPod nano uses the same audio codech chip as the 4G, U2, and iPod photo players, its sound quality will be nearly identical to those other players.

If you look at pictures, the nano has the WM8975G, while the 4g ipods don't have the G. I wonder if there is any difference between the two.

With the photo, it seemed like there was more treble and more Bass. When I switched to the nano, the lyrics were much more forward. Were the mids exaggerated on the nano, or are they recessed on the photo? That's not supposd to happen. I switched songs, and it was definitely there.

Then I realized something. The photo's eq was on Latin. Whoops. I never use the eq, but was messing around with the e4 straight from the headphone out with various eq's.

So, now that they're both flat, I think the nano sounds a little better, but I'm having difficulty ensuring that the volumes are at the same level. However it is, the difference is subtle.

I did a brief test at the Apple Store last night using my Sony EX-71s. Assuming that Apple put the same tracks (bitrates, etc.) on both the iPod Photo and Nano, I found that the iPod Photo sounded slightly better. Mind you this was a 10 minute test and I was limited to the music Apple loaded on their players (i.e. Coldplay, Dido, REM, Barry White, Groove Armada).

It’ll be interesting to see what others think once people have had more time to compare both players.

Just got my nano today at Best buy. My iaudio u2 joystick is starting to go and that is one of my favorite flash players for working out. My first impression on the sound is pretty good, flat to me it sounds a touch better than my mini (2nd gen.) and the eq section seems to be improved, the "rock " setting is what I generally use and the bass seems more robust on that setting than my mini.

In fact with the eq enabled it compared favorably to my sony nw hd3 with the bass turned all the way up. This is the first ipod I have had that I really liked the sound, I have never heard the shuffle though.

I wrapped the sucker in saran wrap until I can get a case

See, you should have gotten a white iPod nano... then you could be fashionable and use different color saran wraps to accent your wardrobe.

This would address those who miss the anodized aluminum colors of the discontinued iPod mini.

Maybe I should package three colored sheets of saran wrap and sell them for $19 < s >

saran wrap it neatly enough, you have yourself a new apple product that you can sell as like... iMembrane or something... make yourself a crap load of money lol

then again i would personally try using a condom on it.

well they can take it out periodically... with some nonscratch gloves, for the purpose of showing it off to someone. but then put it back in very quickly so that oxygen will not scratch it too badly

One thing about the mini it seems more scratch resistent. I know a lot of people who use it without a case and are happy with it.

In some ways I feel like a portable player shouldn't need a case. Having the case on all the time not only takes away from the looks, but is like driving around a nice car with a cover on it. Of course I too would be protective if I had a nice new nano, but I sometimes wonder if its really good usability wise to design ipods that are so scratch sensitive. it does look nice though

I just sold my mini after buying the nano and as I removed the skin in which the mini had been enclosed in for the last six months it struck me how beautiful the cold green aluminium was. And I had not been able to enjoy it.. But at least it was scratch free and sold for a good price, but still, I have to agree with anyoung.
