My aging but loved Timbre DAC is attached to my speaker based stereo so I need to find an alternative source for my headphone amp - a Cayin -and phones.

I would prefer not to clutter my listening area with piles of CDs so I am hoping to use either my classic ipod line out or buy a Duet. Not sure how they compare as far as sound is concerned. So far the ipod is not knocking my socks off but it may be the best I can do under the circumstances unless you guys have some good ideas. I am fresh out.

Well you have lots of choices, but between the two I'd say the Duet would be superior in SQ if it sounds as good at the Squeezebox 3/Classic.

I second the SB/duet, or you might get an iMod, or even just use your iPod with Wadia's DAC-dock.
