Hi guys, I'm pretty new to Hi-Fi listening and just got my first pair of headphones in today. I got a pair of Sony MDR-CD2000s.
I've been listening to them using my Ipod Touch 8GB 1st Gen and I've been noticing a weird echo sort of noise. Odd thing is that I hear the "echo" of the music before the actual sound is played over my headphones. The song I can hear it most clearly is The Pot by Tool. I can hear his voice at the beginning of the song for about 1/2 - 2/3 of a second before the singing is supposed to start. It's very faint and slightly muffled, but very noticeable on these headphones. I can replicate it on other headphones, but it's unnoticeable unless you're listening for it. It also isn't confined to just that album, I've noticed it on a few different albums so far.
My question is this: What can cause this issue?
Could it be a bad rip of the CD? I ripped it myself using Windows Media Player into MP3s using the default settings. So could I get rid of it by ripping the CD using different settings or a different program?
Could it be caused by the Ipod itself? I don't know if anyone else has encountered this on their Ipods but I could use some insight by a more experienced Ipod owner. Maybe it's caused by the internal electronics?
I'm gonna post this now and am going to try and capture the "echo" with a mic, and maybe the sound clip will help you guys identify the issue.
