boggled my mind when they said that competitors are trying to make their buds like apple's

Yeah, The mini-jack plug is acutally a tiny plastic piece.

I have gotten first hand on how the iBuds look when disassembled since I got angry with mine so subsequently I took some tools and started to tear it apart to see what kind of driver is inside that plastic earbud housing.

The ibuds are meant only for two purposes:

1) To help the user proclaim that they have an ipod and therefore allow them to attract more attention (and look like an idiot to us Head-fi'ers).

2) To be thrown out.
