There is speculation that there might be a difference in the amount of RAM in the 80 GB versus the 160 GB iPod Classics...lets see what the data tells us.

If the hard drive has to be spun up I find my 160GB Classic can pause a little but since the firmware update it has not performed in any way I'd consider sluggish.

If a song is playing and I try to navigate from the "genre" screen back up to the top level menu, it literally takes 3-4 seconds. How speedy is that particular navigation on your 160?

It took about a second, maybe two. It doesn't feel super fast and the display doesn't animate smoothly during the transition but I don't think my 4G iPod Photo was any faster.

160GB Classic, Firmware 1.0.1, no major lag issues at all. Once in a while a 1-2 second jump, always associated with the hard drive spinning up.

Well i won't vote cause i don't have a 6g but my 5g do this to me sometime. When the hard drive is loading it reeves up and make the software jam for 3 seconds...i never cried over this

mine is abit sluggish, especially when its got teh screensaver on, and its a bit laggy. otherwise fine

My 160gb Classic is sluggish compared to the 3G Nano I have. I didn't expect it to be like that.

same with HD spinning up, but I wouldn't consider it bad. the firmware update fixed most of it for me. 80 GB Classic.

I tested both of them at an Apple store and if you try to use coverflow while playing a song, coverflow is sluggish as hell while the song skips like you wouldn't believe.

Let's assume that the menu is sluggish because of the cover art being loaded while you scroll.
How big are your covers? I use 200x200 for my 6G 80GB. Larger covers don't make sense anyway since the display is only 320x240 and they would sure need longer to load. Just an idead.
