Well, I asked this question once before but didn't get any responses.

I have a 160GB ipod and am currently using a line out cable to a Mini^3.
The sound, however, mutes when I engage the hold switch. It doesn't turn
back on when I disengage the hold switch. It will "reset" if I plug it into
another dock or my Sound Dock, at which point the line out functions again. I tried one of Head Direct's cables and thought it was defective because this was happening so I returned it. I just received a Qables cable and the problem is still occurring.
Is this a setting/software issue or do I have a defective Ipod?

Yeah, it's got to be a defective iPod, my 5.5 gen doesn't mute when I put hold on.

thanks for the responses!

I am still within the 30 day return/exchange window for Best Buy so I guess
this is going back tomorrow.

I have a classic 160gb and it doesn't do anything remotely like that. It is most likely defective, but make sure you have the most recent firmware installed, too (1.1.1 as of 3/16 I think). I know the prior rev had some issues.
