Ipod Classic+IE8 possible upgrade recommendations

I have been using my little ipod classic 6th gen with IE8 for the last year for my portable system. What kind of amp upgrade would you guys recommend that would make the sound stage a bit bigger?

Would be good if it could be under 500 bucks and remain as portable as possible. A lot of people have told me to get a SONY D50 as a new source instead of the classic, and said that D50 has a pretty good integrated amp already. Not sure if that's true.SUBMIT

Ipod is a great source, especially if paired with an amp. What kind of music? So 500.00 budget for amp and LOD correct?
