i keep wanting to charge my ipod, and run it off usb power WITHOUT it syncing to my computer, but when i mount it, it just goes to do not disconnect(cant listen), and if i stop it it runs off battery power, which is messed up

its a 2g ipod mini 4 gig if that helps (dont laugh at my harddrive!)

After it syncs and you eject it from itunes it should just sit and charge, at which point you can listen to it. Do you have it set to be used as a removeable drive in itunes?

You could also look at alternative power sources like the USB wall chargers from Zip Linq etc http://www.ziplinq.com/retractable-cable-apple.html

If you feel like some DIY work, you can get a USB extension cable and get rid of the data pin connections. That way, this can be your 'recharging extension cable. If you get fancy, you can put in a switch to flip the data pins on and off.


I think there might already be a cable like this, but not sure.
