ipod and video

I'm guessing that the video will somehow be tied to the music, at least at first. Why bother re-downloading content or converting current DVD content when there are already a ton of good portable DVD players out there with bigger screens.

I guess I am more interested in seeing an upgrade in the DAC from Wolf and update in sound processor from Portal Player. That in turn would mean a improvement in sound quality. I am also alittle worried the ipod would become to big then not being as good of a portible device.

I figure there will be a day when these units will be touch screen and the whole surface of the unit can display video or pictures.

As for artist selling out there quality of their albums to make videos for all there songs. No I don't think things are going to change compared to today. Costs to much to make quality videos. Record companies aren't going to want to invest in to many videos unless they know the album is going to sell. I think the commericalization of music has already taken place.

The portable video market is limited, and unless Apple has some ÜBER-product I don't see much light there. I don't travel much, I commute. Most people do. I have no time or desire to watch a movie on the go. Would I travel I would take something larger (say an iBook, or a 15" Powerbook). The only ones who truely benefit from portable video are the Industry & the thugs who steal iPods. I can see it already "Wait, take my iPod, take it all, but let me watch the last 2 minutes of this!"

Money is in the home-rental market. I would pay to rent HQ movie downloads in DVD-quality without the hassle of actually having to rent a DVD.

Since apple already started selling music videos from its itunes store, is it possible to speculate the screen size of next generation ipods by its resolution? IMO QVGA sounds realistic.

The thing that irritates me is that people will buy ANOTHER ipod now because it can play movies, but they wouldnt get the iAudio X5 for starters.
It's like a feature isnt worth having til Apple says it is. So ignorant.

If they could make a cheaper version of these video players i would consider it. I think that a 5 g video player would hold a ton of video if you compressed it right and could be fairly afordable. I just dont see myself spending $500 on a player that i would hardly use anyway. plus full length movies aren't the only things you could download, I'd get my dave chappelle collection on it and be happy. Most ppl wouldnt watch movies on a 2 inch screen but could use it for shorter clips. I agree that if you want a movie player just go out and get a pmc by creative or archos. Ipods arent even that good anyways.

I think I've seen some news article recently that says "Apple Reinvents the Mouse" because they have 2 button mice now or something :P

It seems like an odd attempt to add value to the standard CD package--somehow justifying the high price of music and discouraging piracy.

Maybe I'm the odd man out, but a CD with video on one side or a music download that plays some sort of clip on my iPod means absolutely nothing to me. If anything, it's distracting, wastes space, and can create hardware and software compatability problems. It also worries me that more time and money will likely be put into the video and less will be spent on the acutal music recording and mastering.

Anyone else feel the same?

i completey agree, these companies should be working on better audio quality for a lower price, not throwing all this tecnology in and raising the price each generation. video means TV and commercials!!!!

For the love of god... why does everyone assume Apple would be dumb enough trying to market a video playing iPod with a 2" screen??

Common sense here people... I think it's safe to say if they're going to do it at all, it's going to be a new design, and will have a screen larger than 2".

But I completely agree with the comment that they should improve the sound quality. I think all regular sized iPods sound like crap. Only the Shuffle performs like it should.. aside from it's buggy firmware.
