iPod amp too powerful?

I just saw this story on the web; evidentally, the iPod has been temporarily taken off the market in France because it plays too loud

Perhaps it's because some people were replacing the phones with lower-impedance phones and also there's no overrideable AVLS (Sony's way of complying with the regulations - not that their amps are anywere near powerful of course).

Knowing the French they'd probably have a daft rule that a device must produce less than 100 decibels no matter what headphone is stuck to it...

One of the Mac rumors sites said they pulled the iPod because ipod translated to French meant something dirty. I don't speak french.
