I understand that the larger 5g iPods are supposed to have 20 hour battery life. Can any owners report on this? What kind of life would I get playing FLAC's? I want a DAP and battery life is very important to me.

you wouldn't get anything with FLAC's, as the iPod's do not support that format (well, they do if you want to run Rockbox on it I guess, but using Rockbox will kill your battery life a lot)

I have the 5.5g 80gb, and while it's not 20 hours, the battery life is much much better then the 5g 30gb i used to have. I can watch a whole movie, and still have about 70% battery life left, which would have drained my 30gb.

there isnt much difference between the 80GB and 60GB when it comes to audio playback using rockbox. My 60Gb runs for 10 hours playing flac nonstop.

The only battery life difference i see between the 80GB and 60GB is when video playback is concerned.

Yeah but in the last week my music collection has gone from 19 to 40 GBs and I have about 30 more CD's that are gonna be ripped soon. I also have 100GB's in recorded TV I havn't watched or will watch again (kenny vs spenny rules). I think I should get the 80gb.
