+1 on keeping the 5.5G and replacing the hdd. For about the price you'd pay for a 120GB classic, you could put a 240GB in your 5.5, or pay less for the newer 80GB hdd and keep the svelt form factor of the 30GB but with higher capacity 80GB drive.

Just bought a 80GB classic hard drive for my 30 5.5G on ebay brand new for $70.00. It fits under the 30GB back with no trouble, you still get to have the slim form factor. If your going to use rockbox use the 80GB version with the new hard drive instead of the 30gb version.

Just a quick question, if you replace the 80gb back plate with the slimmer 30gb back plate, does the battery have to be swapped out too or are they the same size?
