I've had a HD3 that has been in purgatory for the past 6 months waiting for a new lease of life in the form of a new hard drive. Having seen the prices of such hard drives on the net (~£75), I've been searching eBay for cheap 4th generation 20 GB ipods and it seems i have found an ideal candidate.
Now what I need to know before buying the ipod is if anyone has attempted a similiar procedure.
AFAIK, the model in the ipod is the Toshiba 1.8' inch MK2004GAL which is identical to the HD3. Is it merely as simple as switching drives and the HD3 working straight away? Or is the some kind of firmware or other software constraint?
What concerns me is that I tried switching drives with my functional HD3 (which has a different drive-MK2006GAL) but to no avail.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
