Japanese audio manufacturer Final Audio Design announced on August 26 the release of a new line of consumer-targeted IEMs to be released starting in mid-September. The company is confident that its range-topping, dynamic-driven, chrome-housed FI-DC1601SC, which will retail for around ¥200,000 (~$2139.80 US), "Provides sound quality that easily surpasses that of high-end speaker setups costing millions
[of yen]." A balanced armature model is also in the works for release in the first quarter of 2010.

For those of us who aren't multi-millionaire CEOs, Final Audio is also releasing the stainless steel FI-DC1601SS and the FI-DC1601SB, which utilizes a brass housing. The FI-DC1600M1, which uses a more traditional plastic housing, will also be available. All four models will house 16mm dynamic drivers. The SS will sell for around ¥80,000 (~$855.04 US), the SB for ¥60,000 (~$641.28), and the M1 for ¥50,000 (~$534.95).

If that's not enough, the company will also release two 13.5mm driver models: the FI-DC1350M1 and the FI-DC1350M2. They will sell for around ¥30,000 ~$320.64) and ¥20,000 (~$213.76), respectively.

So, who's going to take one for the team?

that's big isn't it??

Yeah it's pretty big for an IEM, well I think. The Sony MDR EX700 uses a 16mm driver and they state that it's "the biggest of any closed type in-ear headphones"

I really can't see them being better than a custom IEM, especially in that price range. $2100 USD for a universal fit IEM is ridiculous.

Still, I guess we have to give them the benefit of the doubt until someone has heard them. Where's our resident millionaire audiophile?
