@Eee Pee -- Yikes at lumping in 2Pac with the "garbage" in hip-hop!

Yeah well, I lump him in with Digital Underground, too.

Sorry, not a fan of his lyrical content, no matter how it was delivered.

Nujabes, Force of Nature, Jedi Mind Tricks, Shing 02.

Listen to "Ristorante Mixtape - Side A" a compilation of various artist and DJ's from god knows how long ago and you'll be amazed at the beauty of the track.

Cool that you like to have a go at these genres and happy to give a man some options. Let's see: something easy going, something this day and age..

rappin:
the roots - how i got over
jay are - the 1960's jazz revolution again

housin:
luomo - the present lover (bit older)
dj sprinkles - midtown 120 blues

electronic:
bibio - ambivalence avenue
games - that we can play

soul(-jazz):
josé james - blackmagic
charles bradley - no time for dreaming

Let me know how this works out for you

Man, great recommendations! Bravo.
Its good to know people appreciate a lot of good music, not much of this crap that people craze about.

Thanks. Some of the stuff I have been trying out seems like it has a mandatory obscenity content.

This will often be the case but not necessarily. Hip Hop is a wide ranging genre with many tiny pockets, with much listening you are sure to find your niche. Pandora would be a fine start if you have some artists in mind that intrigue you. The music itself typically relies on a repetitive form of looping and sampling, which refuses to bore the ear when done well. Also keep in mind the genre tends to hold a fair load of garbage, so consider sifting and digging mandatory. No easy exploration, but will surely reward.
