Just wondering if anyone has experience using the 598's for gaming on their PS4? I'm currently pairing it with the Astro Mixamp (2010 edition) and so far while it sounds good, I feel like I'm not quite getting the quality of sound that I'm reading about. Should I be disabling the virtual surround sound option on the amp by default?

If you set the PS4 audio setting to 2-channel and turn off any virtual sound settings on the Mix-amp, you should be getting the best sound quality possible.
(My best guess).

Console gaming audio hardware (Astro) is gear more for the surround sound features, then the sound quality, otherwise the gaming hardware would cost too much.

What optical in DAC/AMP would you recommend to pair with the 598's? Since PS4 has optical out..

The lowest costing way would be a FiiO D03K (optical) DAC, $28, with a FiiO E11k headphone amplifier, $60, so around $88.
FiiO E17, $130-$140.
Schiit Modi/Magni DAC/amp, $200.

I bought SD793 a few years ago, it never fully functioned.
I've bought around 4 SMSL products.
The SD-793 never worked well and another SMSL product only functioned for about 15 minutes of use.
So it's a bit of a risk buying SMSL.
