I'm about to install an Emu 0404 but would like to keep my current sound card. Is it absolutely necessary to remove the drivers of the current card and then reinstall it after the Emu card is running as suggested in the instructions? Or could I just disable the first card while installing the Emu card?. Or perhaps I can just install the Emu card as is. I believe the current card I have is a Soundmax card.

thanks

I had no problems just installing the 0404 alongside my onboard sound (nForce2 Soundstorm). I didn't have to disable or uninstall anything else first.

Not unless it is a creative card

I am running Soundstorm, a GTXP, and a MobilePRE at the same time without any problems

that's correct. Creative cards share driver files, and that's what makes having an Audigy and an EMU potentially problematic.
