Does anyone have any experience, or an informed opinion regarding this product? With or without a portable amp for that matter.

Koss eq50 Three-band Equalizer:

Apparently, no other company currently manufactures a similar device for portable applications.

However, I seem to recall reading that it introduces an unacceptable amount of hiss or hum, and is therefore not well regarded. Correct?

Unfortunately, all the bad things about that Koss EQ unit are true - and then some. The Koss EQ also has practically no headroom in its output - that is, there is hardly any leeway between the volume level at which the EQ produces sound and the volume level at which the EQ's output begins to distort.

If you really, really, really would like to have a PCDP with a graphic equalizer, you can try a model made by GPX. I can't find their website, but it should be avaible in a lot of places. Be warned, it probably is not a very good or reliable player.

Thanks Onix, that's interesting.

GPX C3935 Portable CD Player:

It appears that amazon.com was selling these for $44.99, ninety days parts and labor warranty.

Your point about quality and reliability is well taken.
