Btw, just another question if it's ok (so I don't have to start a new thread)? If you remember, I said that I'm using the Monitor Audio MR2 as my fronts on my desk, right? So the obvious choice would be to get the centre channel from the same series, but here's the thing; it's about half the height of the speakers (that is, it's too big). Wouldn't it drown out the fronts? Should I get something smaller or still get it but just perhaps lower the volume of the centre? Opinions? I thought of maybe a Dynavoice speaker 'cause they're both cheap and small but maybe not quality? I don't know help me D:
You need to use the same series as they use either identical drivers or the same basic design in different midwoofer size, which guarantees that they'll either sound identical or at least the differences are impossible to detect by ear once you have a 5.1 program running (as opposed to A-B comparo vs a 2x5.25in center vs a 6.5in L-R using the same channel audio). Also the size isn't what will determine whether it will drown out the mains but what the sensitivity disparity is (which is kept to a negligible level if they're the same series) and distance, which gets a lot more difficult to do when you have size getting in the way of mounting options, which is why I've been pointing you towards those smaller but not exactly plastic cases with cheap paper fullrange cones.
If you really want that system to sound right but keep on using those speakers, you need to mount them properly. Even if the center fits on your desk, at that close distance, it will be irredeemably closer to you vs the FL and FR speakers, unless they're flanking the center, at which point they'd be positioned so close you could have just set a Phantom Center. Mount the Center above the monitor, and make sure that the position of it and the FL and FR are nearly equidistant. After that use the time alignment tuning program for your receiver once you have the rears, and then sync that with the display.
If your receiver has a Phantom Center function, use that and put your money towards getting the surrounds.
