Hi,

I've just recently started delving into the world of better sounding music and was wondering if someone could help me decide on a new player. At first I was thinking of getting an iPod touch 4g and an ATH m50 for portable use. However I just saw the deal for a HM601 and RE zero which would be quite good I believe. If I were to get either players I would probably plan to use them for home and portable use. I am currently using an Alessandro MS1 along with a pa2v2 on my laptop/ipod nano 3g.

Also I am thinking of purchasing an AKG K701 (if I can bring myself to spend that much), and was wondering if the HM-601 would be able to power it.

Thanks so much!

theres no way a 601 or even the pa2v2 could power the k701.

Despite the fact that you could probably crank the volume high enough, it would not sound that great. The K701 would sound no where near as good as the K701 on a decent home amp.

Thanks for the replies!

I had a feeling that the HM-601 and pa2v2 wouldn't be able to power the AKG K701. Could I use both in conjunction with each other? I'm pretty sure the HM-601 already has an amp built in, but would using the pa2v2 help at all? I may just end up purchasing the AKG K701 for the time being and purchase a decent amp when I have the funds.

Also, would purchasing an iPod touch 4g in addition with a LOD cable be a better purchase then the HM-601? I'm really interested in the HM-601 as it sounds like its a great sounding player, but the size is kind of awkward and would the HM-601 be a sufficient source in a future setup?

Thanks again for the input.

you could use both in conjunction and I'm sure the pa2v2 would help, though its still nowhere near the the amount of power the 701 needs to sound good.

If sound quality is all that you're looking for, I'd go with the 601, however, the ipod touch beats it in pretty much every other category.
