In need of new sealed cans

My 280's didn't have "the deathgrip".

The DT770's actually felt tighter....however the 280's were 4+ years old so I am guessing they got looser and more comfy, which they were. I could wear those for hours upon hours.

here they are currently on amazon for $160 new:
Amazon.com: Used and New: Sennheiser HD 25-1 II Professional Headphones

The seller at that link has the HD25-1 II for $176.6 shipped.

However, another seller on Amazon does have it for only $160.01 shipped.

The HD280 is much tighter and takes longer to loosen than other cans I've had. I fully extended mine and fit it over a box to stretch for a couple weeks while burning in. Even after a couple of years of light use, it was still reasonably tight, but worked great for blocking noise in and out.

If you feel like splurging a little, the HFI-780s are definitely worth it. Mine are at around 52 hours, and they already sound fantastic. That, and they're easily powered by the Cowon D2 (I own one myself). However, I use a RSA Tomahawk with my D2 setup, so it sounds even better.

You might want to start an HD25-1 II vs HFI780 thread. Those type of threads tend to get good input.

I haven't heard either one, but one obvious difference I am sure of is the former will have a Sennheiser house sound and the later an Ultrasone house sound. And these house sounds are distinctly different, and choosing one over the other could mostly be a matter of preference AND purpose. I would want to amp either of them well. If choosing one to be my only cans, I'd go with the HD25-1 II since I like the Senn sound for my main headphone uses: rock and movies. However, if I wanted another set of cans to use with my HD580, between these two I'd go with the Ultrasone in hopes it would perform better than Sennheisers with my lesser headphone interests. Hopefully you get better input than this to help you decide.
