I'm not very informed about PC sound cards. I have an X-Fi Xtreme music and although it's very nice for games, I don't find it as good for music itself. I was wondering if there are sound cards out there that are less expensive (under $100) and have a better DAC with a line out, or would it be better just to get myself a USB dac?

Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

sondigo inferno without a doubt. better sq than the x-fi (not just a bit better, quite a big difference) and it costs $80USD.

I'm quite incompetent at anything having to do with changing components on hardware. I know it would be to my benefit to learn but I'm horrible without an actual full and thorough guide.

I will definitely take a look at the sondigo inferno though. Thanks! ^_^

Does your mobo have a spdif out? If so just use that to a coax DAC. The thicker coax cable provides you with a nice placebo effect over the USB. What about kmixer resampling you say? I honestly cannot tell the difference between 48k and 44.1k. Or my ears suck.
