I'm having loads of enjoyment listening to Beethoven string quartets out of an unamped K81DJ

. Am I therefore considered a sinner in the audiophile world?

I think my AD700's sound-stage is too wide for this kind of music.

Au contraire - I think that the K81 has a surprisingly natural timbre when reproducing stringed instruments. Very energetic and engaging. Nothing wrong with enjoying them with chamber music

Can't comment on chamber music, but the K81DJs were my first pair of headphones and I had lots of fun with them, so more power to you!

As long as you're happy, nobody can say you are wrong.

I have a number of headphones as you can see in my sig
and I love them all for certain purposes

I use the K518 almost everyday when walking from school
it's isolation and bass is great for walking undistracted and relieving

any particular string quartets? I must say I haven´t found anythingthat sound good out of them but that is mainly because I can only wear them in 20 minute stints. And when I wear them I am generally to distracted by that awful bass

But will check it out certainly

oqvist: Op. 59 No.2 and No.3 are particularly good. I still haven't delved deep into the late quartets yet though, which is for many, where the true profundity lies.

If you like the sound, then nothing wrong with that. We only burn selected people on the stake!

In terms of hi(ish)fi I've had K81DJ, RE0 and SRH-840. The last two outperforming the K81DJ pretty convincingly IMO. I don't regret tossing the K81 to some head-fier in exchange for a song.
