I tried real hard to warn people on this forum when IMR first started up because of all the crap this guy pulled with Trinity. But, its hard when people didnt personally experience any of that themselves, and especially so because on the surface, the products he offers are pretty enticing at prices that seems quite decent. But at least when IMR was first starting out, people seemed to actually be receiving products, and seemingly were getting their moneys worth, so I figured it wasnt really my place to tell people how they should spend their money.
But after reading some of this, and seeing the other thread pop up. Please everyone stop giving this guy your money. You might luck out and get a product, it may even be decent. But, it kind of seems like luck of the draw, and you are equally likely to have him take your money and you will get nothing.
Even the sob story shared here, whether any of it is true or not, feels similar in some ways to the stuff he started saying after trinity imploded.
And just in case anyone here still isnt aware of what Trinity was, it was his company before IMR. They offered some products on kickstarter, some directly from their website. They had affordable models with driver configurations that at the time were normally priced much higher. They also offered tuning nozzles. It doesnt sound too crazy these days, but back then it was pretty new and exciting. Initially they delivered, and the products were decent. Then they started to offer more and more products, eventually everything was offered through kickstarter or for preorder only. They missed pretty much all the shipping dates, and would often then introduce even newer products for preorder before anyone received the earlier products. For a time, people did receive their highly delayed preorders. But it became pretty clear that as they kept introducing more stuff for preorder, they needed to keep bringing in money in order to actually fund and produce the products they had already sold and promised to people.
Eventualy it imploded, because kind of like ponzi schemes, theres no way to sustain that forever. Bob had always promoted himself as the owner and main guy behind trinity. But then when it all failed, suddenly, he was just the guy they had contracted to tune and design their IEMs, and he was just as much a victim as everyone else.
IMR started up. I personally have never and would never buy anything from them because of Trinity. But, they did seem to have interesting products at price points that were quite good compared to a lot of other stuff out there. And people actually were receiving what they paid for. So maybe the trinity crap was a one off thing, bad luck for anyone involved, and if people were actually getting what they paid for, great. But then I saw that their whole business model started to feel pretty similar to Trinity. All new products seemed to be preorder only. And worse, It seemed like a good portion were limited runs only too. Which always felt to me like a pretty scummy tactic designed to prey on fomo. As I said in the other thread that was started up, if everything is limited, nothing is special.
I havent been too active on head fi lately, but it really doesnt surprise me to see that IMR has gone pretty much the exact same way as Trinity. In my opinion, at best, Bob is just really not good at running a business, and at worst is an actual scammer and thief. And I really dont think anyone should be giving him their money. I hope everyone that has given money either actually gets what they paid for or is able to get their money back.
