hello all!!!
i'm thinking of picking up one of these babies. my background: hardcore md enthusiast and previous owner of one mp3/cd player (ej1000 i think). ditched the mp3/cd player because i preferred the size and non-scratchable md media.
now, i've got an ever expanding music collection and need a better way to transport it than carrying around a bazillion mds!!! i see three solutions to the problem:
1. stick with md and deal with it. small size. doesn't skip. already have it. great battery life! too many mds, though - limited music selection.
2. cd/mp3 player. the imp-550 has nice features, from what i've read - like the remote and radio, especially. i also like that i could have as many mp3 cds as i want and that it has removable batteries. don't like that it might have poor anti-skipping protection and poor battery life (although i have extra gumsticks around from years of md use, so i should be able to keep a couple extras and switch out if need be). weaker headphone out than the zen but better than the md (i've got a supermini to take care of this anyway). $148 @ compuplus.
3. nomad zen. might be better at controlling skipping. no need to change out media but may need to switch out the hd eventually. no radio. no removable battery. similar battery life to imp-550. better headphone out than either option. $189 @ compuplus.
i use it at work in a greenhouse. so there's gravel everywhere - might lead to bumpy walking, but i won't bne running with any of them. i'll probably use it in the car, too. so my main concern with the imp would be skipping while walking around. my main concern with the zen is the battery.
if anyone has helpful advice regarding my choice, i'd be grateful! right now, i'm leaning towards the imp-550.
EDIT: oh yeah, i'll be using shure e2 and/or sony d66sl depending on the listening environment.
