Hey, I'm sorry to hear that.... so.. I have an offer for you! I'll take those HD650s off your hand and give you HD580s with a HD650 cord so you'll still have that Sennheiser sound!! Plus cash to make up the difference!

Yes! Might as well throw in the PX100 into the mix because Koss headphones sound a bit dry in the mids IMHO and not much like the richness of the Senn house-sound.

Thanks for all the advice. After looking after how much money I'd have to spend on the A900, it looks to be out of the question. I'm really leaning toward the MS-1s though.

but man, having to sell stuff to get through school... that sucks. is there no other way to get more money? i remember asking for more money since i was so poor, and the school gave me another $1,500 in loan money. maybe you should try that?

It's either this, or stop working out. And that's out of the question.

no one ever ever listens to the "sorry about your wallet" part of the head-fi greeting. it's a half joke, and a whole truth!

it's funny and sad how our perspective of expensive and cheap gets skewed in this hobby. i remember when i first started, $100 for a set of HD580 seemed exorbitant to me but now $100 doesn't seem so bad anymore. live within your means. at this point in your life, education is more important than having a nice pair of cans. i was listening to my k81dj that i recabled and was thinking that i could just live with this one pair of cans and be really happy. the moral of the story is that you should focus on long term goals while being able to find some really good value headphones.

If you are into rock MS1 offers tremendous value-for-money for only 99$ shipped. They work fine unamped but truth is they really sing with an amp.
I'd say MS1+cmoy/a47 will rock without breaking the bank

Well, you only really need one kidney...

But seriously, if you need money you could try looking through everything you own and see what you could sell. I know a lot of people have had success making money just selling the crap they don't want and have lying around. Try having a garage/tag sale or set up shop on ebay/craigslist.

Just get a pair of PX100s to hold you by. Only 35 bucks at amazon with free shipping. They should work as long as you're gentle with them and don't tear them apart.

Boy I can relate. When you first start out, "Nothing over $100." Anyone that spends $300 on a headphone must be crazy. Then after two months, "$200 doesn't seem that bad." Then you get hit with the head-fi bug and start thinking things like, "Hmm... I just saw a pair of K1000 in the FS section."

I remember when I had a RS-1 with RA-1 amp, $200 in various interconnect cables, and a $500 CD player among other things. Then I realized I was sacrficing a bit too much, so I currently have an Ipod and KSC-35. That's it. I know I'll be back one day to the higher end stuff, but I'm completely content right now until that happens. I remember when I got out of school I was about $40k in debt...10 years later it's finally gone but is a feeling no headphone could give me. Prioritize...I guarantee the toys will be waiting for you when you return.

Grado SR60's and Koss KSC75's. Best of both worlds, not really a Senn, but then again oh well. Your on a budget...
