Dear all,

Would anyone be interested in a group
buy of the power supply film capacitor
specified in the Head-wize Gilmore amp article?

Here's a link to the data sheet:
http://www.illcap.com/pdf2/Series/PHC.pdf

According to Illinois Cap, there will be a
12-14 week lead time and a minimum
order of 50 pieces. None of thier distributors
currently stock these caps. I was not quoted a price,
but in the article, it was mentioned these
caps are $7.50 each.

Of course, there may be good alternative
high slew rate, low inductance caps
(from my perusal of previous posts, it seems
these are the characteristics needed to prevent
the 548's from overheating).
Any suggestions here
would be welcome.

Great! It looks like this might work.
Assuming everyone wants a set of
four, we have 28 pieces so far (I need 8). If
anyone wants less then four, please
let me know.

I'll wait until we approach the 50 mark
before making any definite plans.

Thanks for the interest so far.

PS: I should have mentioned this at the
outset. I plan to order the 850 V cap.
This is rather large: 38 X 55 mm (apr 1.5 X 2.126 in).

Oh dear. I woz planning to bung these into an Antness V1. No room for nothing that size. Why the 850V cap? I would have thought a 60V rating would be plenty.

Goon-Heaven

I think we are talking about different caps?
I was looking at the 505PHC***K caps.
The asteriks are the voltage rating.
For 850 V, the size is 38 X 55 mm.
The lowest voltage is 250 V at 18.5 X 34.

Which model is the 60 V?

I was interested in the 850 V since this is
what Dr. Gilmore originally used. It has 2-3
times the slew rate of the lower voltage caps
in the series (125 V/us for the 850 V,
40 V/uf for the 250 V, 60 V/us for the 700 V).

I have recieved a price quote for the 850 V:

$8.32 each if 50-99 pieces are ordered.

$7.27 each if 100--499 pieces are ordered.
