Does someone out there know if Iriver has an external battery pack for their IHP series?
Or if it is possible to charge with different voltages (ie. 100-240)?

I currently have an IMP-350 which has an ext pack.
My problem is this:
If i travel to an area with a different voltage (US, south-america) and i run out of battery, will i be able to listen to my music on the plane home without buying a power converter?

I have a digital camera that can be charged everywhere by just using an adaptor for the power socket (no converter)

Thanks for any inputs

Not sure about external battery packs, but the A/C adaptor is universal, mine says:

Input: 100-240V, 350 mA 50/60Hz
Output: 5V_2A

So you should be able to use it anywhere in the world.

It is very easy to build an external battery pack.

You need a battery holder for 4 AA cells and a plug which fits the iHP.

Here in Canada this costs less than CAN$ 10.-

The battery pack (when using NiMH cells) is able to recharge the unit about twice, so you get about 45 hours of playing time...

More details can be found on the German and English Iriver fan sites.

Hi All,
Hi Nikkojk,

there is no "official" distributor of iHP-Accessories yet.
Belkin only have accessories for the iPods now.

So I've built an external battery pack from "international"
components

Battery-holder is from RadioShack.
DC-connectors and cable are from an German electronic-shop
NiMh batteries (haehnel) are from www.akkumarkt.de

A description of the DIY-project you can find under
www.ihplounge.com (ZUBEHOER)

The iHP runs for more than 30hrs. with permanently connected
battery-pack.
I've tested some load/reload scenarios.

1) Full battery in iHP (runtime 17h30min, iRiver testscenario)
1.1) Status of iHP battery now: empty
2) Charging iHP with Full bat-pack (3h20min)
2.1) listen to music during charging
2.2) Full iHP battery again, disconnecting bat-pack
3) listen to music for 12hrs.
(regular use, mp3 192kps, user EQ, vol. 13, some on/off)
3.1) Status of iHP battery now: empty
4) again, recharge iHP with bat-pack and using the iHP
for 24hrs. nonstop music with connected bat-pack.
Now bat-pack is empty and the iHP is empty.

sum runtime: 56hrs50min
with one full load of iHP and one full load of bat-pack.

cheers

Buckaroo Banzai, what type of batteries are you using for your battery pack? Regular 1.5V AAs or rechargable 1.2V AAs?

I assume the iHP is rated at 5V?

hi GSTom1,

I'm using 4x AA 1.25V 2350mAh NiMh batteries.
http://www.akkumarkt.de/shop/default...86-100204-9152

You can use 1.2 V batteries too.
With 4.8 V the iHP runs fine.

5 V is an standard voltage-level. For charging the internal
lithium polymer battery you only need 4.2 V (endvoltage).

cheers
