Ifi iLink USB converter
Sep 8, 2013 at 2:07 AM Post #17 of 35
Anyone compared this to the HIface Evo stack ( battery spdif convertor and clock ) which is what i currently use?
I personally had the EVO. EVO does not even come close. I literally returned it after 4 days.

Actually, do you mind if I ask what the serial number reads on your EVO unit? You may PM me of you do not wish to publish it.

Anyone on this tread use jRiver Media Center?  Is there an output mode that works with 24bit 192khz and the I-link?

Thanks

Here's my dilemma and I'm sorry I'm kind of new to this, but I typically have been listening to mostly 24/192 and below in various formats.  But I recently have been collecting DSD and even (24/384) as I recently purchased a NuPrime IDA-16, which supports USB Sampling Rates: 44.1KHz, 48KHz, 88.2KHz, 96KHz, 176.4KHz, 192KHz, 352.8KHz, 384KHz and DSD 2.8MHz, 5.6MHz, 11.2MHz.  I currently just go from the Computer via USB to my IDA-16.

Now, with S/PDIF, my NuPrime IDA-16 only supports 16 and 24 Bit up to 192, so i'm wondering if I use the iLink, will have to convert any 24/384 to 24/192 and DSD files to PCM 24/192 so I don't run into problems?

A while back, I owned a Bel Canto uLink, which is essentially does the same thing, but my DAC at the time did not play anything past 24/192 like the IDA-16, so I didn't even bother with DSD until just recently so I inadvertantly sold the Bel Canto uLink with my older powerDAC.  Yeah, i probably should have kept it, but I didn't.  :frowning2:

But I know that the difference with these USB converters can be a huge improvement as I heard with the Bel Canto.  I'm trying to save some money which is why the iFi looks compelling and I've used iFi products in the past and I like their build quality and I think they make nice, affordable products.

Thanks!

I have two of these, and recently compared one to a friend's Schiit Eitr. We couldn't hear a difference between the Eitr and the iLink. Another friend at our test asked where to find an iLink. They have been conspicuously absent from Musicdirect for many months. @iFi audio , can you offer any advice on where to purchase an iLink? They're listed on your website as a current product, but I can't find anywhere that one can be purchased. Is the iLink a current product, or has it been discontinued?

Thanks

Hello iFi and thanks for responding to my query. I'm going to respectfully decline your request to take this conversation private. I only asked if the iLink is still a current product and if so, where one can be purchased today. Because this forum represents such a large swath of your purchasing demographic, I think it's not only appropriate to ask the question here, but reasonable to expect a public answer. If iFi is choosing not to answer this question publicly, the forum members can draw their own conclusions about what the actual answer might be.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Dear Sev Bordas

The only reason we are suggesting contacting the support system is because we wanted to help you locate a dealer close to you and did not want you to have to put all your personal details on a public forum.

Please let us know your city and we can then provide you with details.

I hope that this answers your query.

Best wishes

While I live in California, I have always purchased your products from internet storefronts (mostly Musicdirect). Can we assume you have stopped manufacturing the iLink and you're just waiting for the supply chain to be exhausted before announcing the iLink's retirement? It's the general availability of the iLink that I'm most interested in (for the forum), not so much what brick and mortar place might still have some in stock.

Thanks again

iFi iLink was released when SPDIF loaded iDSD and iOne weren't a product yet. Now our DACs sport its functionality and we're moving towards USB3.0 standard.

Thank you for responding. As I said, I have two of these and having also tried the new Schiit Eitr, I prefer the iLink because is runs from USB power (no wall wart!).

I understand that product lines must evolve. I'm glad I got my iLinks when they were still available.

If you need some more, feel free to let us know. We still have some in our USA warehouse.
